Did you know that International Women’s Day (IWD) is one of the focal points in the women’s rights movement? It is celebrated every year on the 8th of March.

The Socialist Party of America organized Women’s Day in NYC in 1909.At that time a German revolutionary, German Socialist Luise Zietz proposed women’s’ day andClara Zetkinwho was speaking at theInternational Socialist Woman’s Conference, seconded it and declared that all working women should be honored every year on March 8th. That decree didn’t necessarily mean that it happened instantly. In fact, it took many years for International Women’s Day to be accepted.
For the most part, the day was celebrated by the socialist movement and communist countries until it was adopted by the feminist movement in the United States about 1967. The United Nations began celebrating the day in 1975.
traditionally International Women’s day is a day when we pay homage not just to women who work outside the home but to all women. It is the opinion of the women of the world that every woman is a working woman and every woman deserves to be remembered for the many things that she does in the course of a day.
How can you honor the women in your life? A small token of your appreciation would be a good start.

A great way to celebrate International Women’s Day might be to recognize the woman in your life — mother, sister, daughter — with a personalized coffee mug or a personalized piece of jewelry. Nothing says we care like something that you personalize yourself and show them how much they mean to you.
While it isn’t necessarily tradition in the USA to give away gifts for International Women’s Day, it is a tradition in other countries, though some people say it is trite and old fashioned. The simple truth is that everyone loves gifts. Why not start a new tradition and give them something that says how much you care for them?
